Are you eligible? How do you get coverage through Medicare D?
Anyone on Medicare is eligible for prescription drug coverage. Private firms provide the coverage. While their plans must meet Medicare’s stringent rules, companies may differ in terms of costs and coverage.
In most cases, if you’re enrolled in a Medicare Advantage health plan, you’ll get your prescription drug coverage through that plan, Medicare says. If you have drug coverage already (from a former employer or union, for instance), your insurer will let you know how that coverage stacks up to standard Medicare Part D coverage.
